More people than ever are getting plastic surgeries to make themselves look younger and more attractive. But which procedures are the most popular in 2021? Please continue reading to learn more.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, sometimes combined with a breast lift, is the most popular plastic surgery, with about 300,000 procedures performed annually.

This procedure is usually done to increase the size of the breasts and reposition them higher on the chest. Many women complain of deflated or saggy breasts after they’ve lost weight or had children.

Silicone breast implants are the most popular, but saline implants also work well. Both are approved by the FDA, and complications are rare, but it’s essential to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon.

The most popular place for the implants to be inserted is under the breasts. This provides the surgeon plenty of access to form the breast pocket in which the implant sits.

If you are worried about scarring, they fade after several months and are mostly invisible because they are under the breasts.

Related surgeries include breast reconstruction (usually after mastectomy or lumpectomy) and breast reduction surgery for women with large breasts.

Liposuction

Year after year, liposuction is one of the most popular procedures. Why? Because liposuction can remove stubborn fat pockets from the body that do not respond well to diet and exercise. If you have stubborn fat on your belly or love handles, despite being at your goal weight, liposuction could be a great fit.

The most popular type is tumescent liposuction, where a solution of epinephrine and saline is injected into the fatty tissue to reduce pain and bleeding. Then, the surgeon inserts a cannula to suck out the fat and liquid.

The infusion of this liquid can cause some bloating, but it will fade after a few days. Most people have some bruising, but it will go away after two or three weeks.

Liposuction is ideal for someone near their ideal body weight with some fat tissue they cannot eliminate; this procedure is not intended for weight loss.

If you are still overweight, your plastic surgeon will likely tell you to lose as much weight as possible before having this procedure.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular surgeries because many patients are dissatisfied with their nose’s appearance. The nose is one of the most noticeable facial features, so reshaping it with plastic surgery can make a striking difference in one’s appearance.

Your surgeon may reduce the size of the nose, the size of the tip or refine other parts of the nose for a shape that you prefer.

Some patients have nose surgery because of breathing problems. In this case, you may have a deviated septum that rhinoplasty can fix, and insurance may cover this procedure because it’s considered medically necessary.

Rhinoplasty is known by surgeons to be among the most challenging cosmetic procedures. So, it’s vital to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with many years of experience in nose surgeries.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is popular because one of the first signs of aging is wrinkled, sagging skin that can hang over the upper eyelids. Some patients also have baggy and puffy circles under the eyes that can be addressed with lower eyelid surgery. Some cases use a combination eyelid surgery and brow lift.

If the skin over the eyes is hanging so far down that it obstructs your vision, your insurance company might even pay for the procedure.

This procedure does require some downtime, so you will need up to 10 or 14 days to recover as the swelling and bruising fades. Fortunately, the incisions are in the folds of the eyelids, and near the bottom eyelash line, so they are practically invisible after you have recovered.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can remove extra skin that hangs over the lower belly, and then the remaining skin is tightened by the surgeon.

Many women like to have a tummy tuck after pregnancy or weight loss as the skin doesn’t bounce back to its slimmer shape.

The ideal candidate for this procedure doesn’t have fat in the abdomen but has skin hanging over the lower belly.

The recovery for this procedure is extensive, and you can expect to be at home most of the time for two or three weeks. But the results are often spectacular as the woman sees a flat, taut belly in the mirror.

If you plan to have more children, it’s recommended to wait to have your tummy tuck; pregnancy can undo much of the procedure, so you would likely need another tummy tuck, or a full mommy makeover.
