Hourglass Mommy Makeover:

Getting an hourglass figure may be possible through diet and exercise — for some women.

But surely not for all.

That’s because the classic hourglass silhouette, made famous by women like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, is notoriously tricky to achieve. After all, very few women naturally have a flat and trim waist with a full bust and shapely hips.

So, how then can a woman without these traits achieve them? … Say, a mom who’s had several kids, for example.

This is where a new(ish) procedure called the “hourglass mommy makeover” comes in. We say “newish” because the traditional mommy makeover has actually been around for some time. It’s only been recently that a new procedure was added  — the Brazilian butt lift — and the hourglass mommy makeover was created.

A mommy makeover is a surgical process that (like a traditional mommy makeover) combines multiple procedures. The ultimate goal of the surgery is to create a beautiful hourglass figure for moms who are done having children. They include:

  • Breast augmentation and/or a breast lift
  • Tummy tuck
  • Liposuction
  • Buttocks augmentation

Who Would Benefit?

Patients who are typically interested in mommy makeovers are bothered by the physical effects of having children — sagging abdominal skin, “deflated” breasts, excess pockets of fat, and a flat or non-curvy bottom. While moms know these effects are worth it for their children, it’s perfectly understandable to miss the figure you once had.

In particular, many women want to alter the overall distribution of fat on their bodies — as this can change drastically with pregnancy. Many such patients have bodies in a traditional “apple” shape, which is basically the opposite of an hourglass shape. The apple body shape features smaller-sized breasts, excess abdominal weight and a large waist size, and narrow hips with a flat unshapely buttocks.

How Is an Hourglass Mommy Makeover Different from a Traditional Mommy Makeover?

The key difference is the addition of the Brazilian butt lift (BBL). Traditional mommy makeovers typically include a breast surgery, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. The hourglass mommy makeover adds a BBL to round out the bottom part of the hourglass figure.

What Makes a Good Candidate?

Not everyone will qualify, nor will every mom who wants to improve her figure need the full surgery. Many women simply need one procedure, such as a breast lift, to renew their confidence and feel like themselves again.

Likewise, you don’t have to be a mom to get an hourglass mommy makeover. In fact, many patients aren’t mothers at all. Many are patients who have lost a substantial amount of weight, for example. After this achievement, they may simply want to refine their features and improve their profile with an “all over” surgery.

Overall, the requirements necessary to be a qualifying candidate for a mommy makeover are as follows.

Cosmetic Requirements

Those who would benefit most from a mommy makeover may be bothered by the following (often related to pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and being a busy mom):

  • Sagging “deflated” breasts
  • Breasts that lack fullness
  • Enlarged nipples
  • A square-ish or non-curvy body shape
  • Excess abdominal skin
  • Small amounts of excess fat on different parts of the body
  • A “flat” buttocks
  • Lack of volume and shape in the hips and buttocks

Health-Related Requirements

To be a good candidate in terms of your health, you must:

  • Be in good overall health
  • Be at or near your ideal weight (generally with a BMI of 30 or less)
  • Be finished having children
  • Have adequate amounts of excess fat (for fat transfer to the buttocks and/or breasts)

What if You Want More Children in the Future?

Patients oft

en want to know what could happen if they became pregnant after their  mommy makeover procedure.

As a standard practice, it is recommended that patients be finished having children before this surgery. Still, it’s important to note that there is no medical reason why a patient can’t become pregnant afterward. Both mom and baby should be safe in this scenario. However, the risk comes in regard to your results.

Because the abdomen and breasts would re-stretch with pregnancy and breastfeeding, and because body fat often shifts drastically during pregnancy, getting pregnant after an mommy makeover would almost certainly affect your results. For this reason, it’s simply safer, more economical, and better overall to be sure that you are done having children before opting for this procedure.

What Does an Hourglass Mommy Makeover Include?

Because the goal of a mommy makeover is to adjust one’s entire profile, it makes sense that the procedure be aimed at various parts of the body. Still, not all procedures are absolutely necessary or even wanted. It is the patient who ultimately chooses which procedures they would like to move forward with. In this way, no two mommy makeovers are alike.

At the same time, there is a list of procedures that each patient can choose from. This includes:

  • Breast surgery: Breast augmentation (implants) and/or a breast lift
  • An hourglass tummy tuck: To remove loose skin from the abdomen
  • Liposuction: To reduce small pockets of unwanted fat on the abdomen (and elsewhere)
  • A Brazilian butt lift: To augment the size and shape of the hips and buttocks

Ahead, we’ll explore each of these procedures in turn.

Breast Surgery

A full chest is a classic trait of the hourglass figure. For this, your hourglass mommy makeover surgeon will turn to either breast augmentation (breast implants), a breast lift, or both.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation changes the size and shape of your breasts by adding volume. This is done with the addition of silicone or saline implants. Discuss with your surgeon which type of implant (and what size and shape) is right for you so you can get exactly what you’re looking for.

Breast Lift

A breast lift procedure literally lifts the breasts, sitting them higher up on the chest. Many moms struggle with breasts that droop. Take a pencil and put it beneath one breast crease. Remove your hand, and see if the pencil stays. If it does, a breast lift may help you restore the youthful appearance and bounce you once had in your breasts.

Breast Augmentation Mastopexy

For patients who lack fullness and volume and who could also benefit from a lift, breast augmentation mastopexy is another option. This procedure combines implants with a breast lift (mastopexy).

Hourglass Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck procedure is particularly necessary for many moms because the skin on the abdomen can become stretched out and loose after pregnancy. Tummy tucks get rid of this extra skin and also repair separated abdominal muscles.

Standard Tummy Tuck

A standard tummy tuck requires two incisions to be made — one low on the tummy, from hip to hip below the bikini line and the other around the belly button. The abdominal muscles are tightened, and the skin is pulled down gently over them. The excess skin is removed, and the belly button is repositioned. The incisions are then closed.

Mini Tummy Tuck

With a mini tummy tuck, excess skin is not removed from above the belly button. Therefore, no incision around the belly button needs to be made because it does not need to be repositioned.

Extended Tummy Tuck

Extended tummy tucks are just like traditional tummy tucks, but the difference is that the lower abdominal incision is extended around the back of the patient as well.

Fleur-de-Lis Tummy Tuck

Fleur-de-lis tummy tucks are reserved for patients who require a more-than-average amount of excess skin to be removed. In addition to the belly button incision and lower lateral incision, a vertical incision is made from the lower lateral incision to the belly button. This allows the surgeon to remove more skin.

Liposuction

Over time, and especially after going through pregnancy and childbirth, fat can accumulate in areas where we’d rather not have it. However, while exercise and eating a well-balanced diet can certainly help with overall fat loss, there is some fat that simply won’t go away no matter what you do. For this fat, the answer is liposuction.

Liposuction

Liposuction necessitates small incisions to be made in the target area(s). A local anesthetic solution will then be injected into the same areas to prepare the fat for removal and numb the patient. A thin tube called a cannula is then inserted, and with power-assisted suction, the fat is dislodged and removed.

Awake Liposuction

For patients who are okay being awake during liposuction, Hill Country Plastic Surgery also offers awake liposuction. This procedure allows the patient to undergo only local anesthesia. Additionally, they may choose sedation, but this is not mandatory either.

Buttocks Augmentation

In the past, the traditional way of augmenting the buttocks was to utilize implants. While implants are still sometimes used, the Brazilian butt lift procedure (BBL for short) has eclipsed buttock implants as the most-used procedure for this part of the body.

Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian butt lift has two aims: to reduce the volume in areas like the abdomen, flanks, and back and to increase volume and improve contouring of the buttocks. As such, there are two main steps to the procedure.

First, your surgeon will perform liposuction to reduce fat accumulation on the tummy and elsewhere. Of course, with an mommy makeover, liposuction is already a part of the surgery. Next, the fat that was removed is processed in preparation for it to be reinjected into the hip and buttock area. With a keen eye and precision of placement, the fat is added exactly where the patient wants to reshape and recontour.

FAQ: Hourglass Mommy Makeover

How painful is a mommy makeover?

As with any major surgery, there will be some pain and soreness after the procedure. Fortunately, your plastic surgeon will provide you with pain management options to help reduce your discomfort, especially at the beginning of your mommy makeover recovery week by week journey. Over time, the soreness will go down, and you’ll be able to start enjoying your brand-new figure.

How much is an hourglass mommy makeover?

Your mommy makeover cost will vary widely, depending on which procedures you opt for and to what extent each procedure is performed. Most patients should expect to pay within the range of $15,000 to $25, 000 or more for their surgery.

Can you get an hourglass figure with surgery?

Yes. This is the goal of a mommy makeover. The hourglass tummy tuck and liposuction procedures slim and flatten the waistline, removing loose skin. The breast augmentation procedure and Brazilian butt lift add volume and fullness to the breasts and buttocks.

Can you get an hourglass figure with a tummy tuck?

Most patients will not achieve an hourglass figure with a tummy tuck alone. That’s because the main goal of a tummy tuck is to reduce the amount of excess skin on the abdomen. Unless liposuction is added as well, the tummy tuck does not slim the waist any more than what can be achieved by reducing loose skin.

Does an it make your waist smaller?

Yes and no. A tummy tuck removes loose skin. In a way, it will likely make your waistline at least slightly smaller. However, this is not the main goal of the procedure. An hourglass tummy tuck and liposuction procedure, on the other hand, can certainly slim your waistline.
